WHERE IS MACKAY BAR RANCH LOCATED?
Mackay Bar Outfitters & Guest Ranch is one of the most unique backcountry guest ranches in Idaho. We’re located in the heart of Idaho, East of Riggins, where the South Fork of the Salmon flows into the Main Salmon. Nestled in the embrace of the Frank Church “River of No Return” Wilderness, Idaho’s Salmon River is the longest undammed, free-flowing river contained in a single state in the lower 48 states.
Boise, ID is the nearest major city, and is the Capital of Idaho, approximately 155 miles or 3 hours driving distance from Riggins, ID.
HOW DO I GET TO MACKAY BAR GUEST RANCH
Our Jet Boats are ready to whisk your group, luggage and all, to Mackay Bar Ranch from Vinegar Creek Boat Launch.
Starting in Riggins, ID, you’ll travel across the new concrete bridge heading up the Main Salmon River Road. You will stay on this road traveling 26 miles until you reach Vinegar Creek Boat Ramp – this will be the end of the road – you will follow the main Salmon River the entire way. This road is paved for the first 10 miles. It is a winding 26 miles so please allow yourself 1 to 1 ½ hours. We will be waiting for you at the end of the road – you will continue the rest of your journey to Mackay Bar Ranch via jet boat (about an hour jet boat trip).
WHAT SIZE OF FAMILY GROUPS CAN MACKAY BAR ACCOMMODATE?
Mackay Bar Guest Ranch can comfortably accommodate between 30 to 32 guests, but we have the capacity for much larger groups. Our tent camping sites expand the number of people we can include for larger family reunions. Call and schedule in advance and you can make Mackay Bar Guest Ranch an exclusive backcountry ranch location for your special family gathering.

WHAT ABOUT MEALS?
All of your meals are served in the dining hall of our main lodge unless we’re packing lunches for an offsite picnic. Special dietary needs? No problem. We’re happy to tailor the menu to meet the needs of individuals in your group.

SUMMER WEATHER AT MACKAY BAR RANCH
It’s hot. Temps are typically anywhere between 90 and 105? Long days, cooler in the morning and hotter evenings. Mackay Bar is located where mornings enjoy the cooler weather and then afternoons are hot. Great for morning horseback rides and afternoon beach stays and dips in the river!
