You’ll spend a luscious weekend sipping wines from Sawtooth Winery, exploring the Salmon River -River of No Return – via Jet Boat and rejuvenating your sense of adventure and perspective, together with the one you love.   The beautiful sights and sounds will lull you into ZEN moments as you become immersed deep in the heart of Idaho’s Frank Church Wilderness.

Sawtooth Winery Couples Getaway

The waters of the Salmon River are crisp, clear and full of white sandy beaches that make your escape truly 'your own private Idaho'. Couple that with amazing accommodations, excellent food and wine and a scenic tour on the Wild Section of Idaho's Main Salmon River - an adventurous, laid back, romantic weekend."

Day 1:

We will pick you up at Vinegar Creek Boat Ramp – 26 miles East of Riggins, ID at 2 MST. Enjoy a tour of the historical Polly Bemis Ranch before we land at Mackay Bar Ranch.  The afternoon will be relaxation in the hammock, on the beach, private hike up the South Fork if you wish. At 7 PM appetizers and dinner are served in our Mackay Bar Lodge with wine tasting along with your private sommelier from local Idaho winery – Sawtooth Winery.  

Day 2:

Your own private wilderness beckons you for a hike if you choose,  prior to a 9 AM breakfast and coffee. After Breakfast (around 10 AM), we will load up the twin engine jet boats and venture upriver, another 15 miles, seeing many historical sites along the way:  Buckskin Bills Musuem, Reho Wolfes Homestead, and Campbells Ferry. We will eat lunch (paired with more wine) on the beach. After hiking, fishing, exploring and swimming in the magnificent Salmon River waters, we will boat back down river to the ranch where appetizers and dinner will be waiting for you (again, paired with more of your favorite wines)!

Day 3:

7 AM coffee overlooking the mighty Salmon River.  Breakfast is served at 9 AM.  We will depart the Ranch for the final jet boat ride (around 10:30 a.m.) arriving back at Vinegar Creek around noon MST.

Easter Celebration
Joni and Buck are excellent hosts to their ranch. Suzie, Jason and Aubry and Ky were absolute pleasures and not a task they could not accomplish readily and cheerfully. The Jetboat ride is exciting with the realization of mother natures forces of water, absolutely spell binding. Buck Captains the Jetboat and wild water with the skill and judgement of a well seasoned Seaman. His "eagle eye" was quick to point out the natural inhabitants to the nearby mountains (Continue review)

We had a great time at Mackay Bar. From the time we got there we felt at home. Stayed in nice rooms, had great food, good company. The lodge always had a fire going and was cozy. I highly recommend staying here for hunting, fishing, or even just a getaway to a remote spot in the mountains. Views are incredible!

Exceptional in every way.
Buck and Joni were born to do exactly what they're doing by running Mackay Bar Outfitters. They're attentive and driven to make your trip more than you came hoping for and they make you feel like and old friend. Great food, incredible boats and guides and the best spot for a lodge on the river. We had a group of 24 and every single one of us had a blast.

Multi Generation Family Adventure
We cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay at Mackay Bar! From the moment we were met at Vinegar Creek Boat launch we were treated like family and launched into our weekend adventure. We enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, hiking, swimming, bridge jumping, trips to Buckskin Bill's for beer and ice cream (try the Porter Float), exciting jet boat rides and delicious home cooked meals. Great Venue for a wedding
Close friends were married here in early May 2014. It was just perfection. The owners and staff did everything within there power to make sure we (14 people) were happy and satisfied at all times. Buck and his family work so hard they seem to never stop moving. The cabins are clean comfortable and secure. The grounds are very well kept. The food is fantastic.
